This was a really fun project we completed in Mount Laurel, NJ for some incredible clients! It included a custom deck and patio, along with stacked stone accent walls and landscaping. Check out this post to get a behind the scenes look at the whole process, along with a video of the entire project at the end.
The process begins with a site visit where we discuss desires and budget, so that by the end of the first visit we have a pretty good idea of what a potential design will look like and how much the project will cost. At this point is when you can decide whether or not you'd like to move forward and get a 3D rendering which costs $250, but is deducted from the cost of the project if you decide to have us build it. We started out with an almost entirely blank slate on this project. The only feature we had to incorporate was the small covered concrete deck out of the back door.
The design we came up with consisted of a composite deck that extends out the back door for an outdoor dining set. It also included a small patio for a grill right out of the back door so you don't need to walk too far from the kitchen when grilling. In addition, we added a patio on the other side of the design to accommodate a sectional couch which leads right into a loose stone fire pit area. To finish things off we added a circular stacked stone wall on the corner of the deck and one more around an existing tree to help highlight it.
When we framed this deck, it flows straight out from the existing concrete patio, so we used "sleepers" on top of the concrete which made the decking flow straight up to the door. You can also see how we stained the trim nailers below the deck so that they disappear behind the trim boards.
Here you can see how well the stain works at hiding the nailers behind the trim, they become totally invisible! You can also see our first circular stacked stone wall here. We used this on the corner of the deck to help anchor it into the landscape.
All finished up here and you can see the additional landscaping we supplied as well as the loose stone fire pit area. I love the way the two circular walls turned out!
You can see from this angle the nice wide stairs that lead from the deck down to the patio. We like to design wide open stairs, so that the deck flows right down to the patio and when people are up at the dining set and others are down on the patio sectional, it doesn't feel like they are too far removed from one another.
I love this combination of Timbertech's Brown Oak, with the Rustic Elm border. You can also see how we wrapped the existing metal columns in matching material so they blend right in with the new deck!
(Disregard the cords running to the lights, this was us testing them out before the electrician finished his install with discreet wiring lol) One of my favorite things on this project was this plant and light installation we did on the deck. The client loved the open feel of the deck without railings, but with two small dogs, was worried about them launching off the deck into the yard. As a solution to that, we designed this combination of planters with cafe lights strung across. It not only served it's purpose, but it added a totally new dimension to the project!
Our goal on every project is to leave the customer extremely pleased and satisfied. I'd say we achieved that on this project!
