This project was a full renovation of the backyard, starting from a completely blank slate and ending with a tiered deck and spacious patio, along with stacked stone walls and landscaping. This project had many interesting details that made the finished product quite impressive!
Upon the first meeting with the clients we discuss their wants and needs and start to develop a budget for the project based on those parameters.
We decided to design a tiered deck that leads down to a patio space. Upon walking out of the house you have the grill area which has enough space for a few chairs as well. The lower tier of the deck is designed as an outdoor eating area with plenty of space for a large dining set and room to walk comfortably around it. The deck then leads down to a patio space that is large enough to accommodate a sectional couch as well as a few lounge chairs. The deck and patio are anchored by two stacked stone walls and landscaping that integrate it seamlessly into the yard.
One of my favorite details on these decks is the trim we installed. The horizontal boards give it a much more modern and sleek look than the typical white lattice.
One corner of the deck is highlighted by this incredible japanese maple. We installed this beautiful tree inside our stacked stone wall, and it became a focal point for this side of the deck.
A lot of times we install these black aluminum railings instead of the typical white vinyl you see so often. White vinyl railings tend to look very plastic and the black aluminum rails have a much more modern look. We also finished off the railing with a 6 inch wide piece of Ipe to act as a cocktail rail, giving a flat surface to rest your drink.
The finished patio space has plenty of room for entertaining and it flows seamlessly from the deck space.
This project incorporated a lot of interesting details and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out!
